Setup and AI Workflows.

My desk setup, my editor, and how I use AI for code, content, studying, and planning.

My setup

I work on a MacBook. At home, I add two monitors:

  • Laptop screen: code. My terminal and anything to do with code lives here.
  • Monitor on top of the laptop: Google Chrome and anything informational.
  • Vertical monitor on the left: chats, so I can keep an eye on message threads.

So if I'm building a frontend, I'm coding on the laptop screen while the monitor on top shows the live changes.

Editor and terminal

I have VS Code, but I don't really use traditional code editors anymore. Most of the time I write code in AI-first editors like Conductor. For everything else, I use the Mac Terminal.

AI coding workflow

Conductor makes it easy to run agents in parallel, each one in its own git worktree.

Plan first

When it's something really big, I always plan first. I use plan mode and go back and forth with Claude about what I want until the plan looks good.

Execute, then review

Once the plan looks good, I execute it with Codex, because I find it faster and more efficient for that part. Then I review the code line by line.

Conductor lets me view the changes as if they were a PR, so I go through the diff, add comments on anything that doesn't make sense to me, and iterate based on those.

Talk to the agents

I spend a lot of my time speaking to agents rather than typing, because it's a lot faster and more efficient for me. Conductor can take in my speech as input, so I just talk through what I want.

The rest of how I build, from pull requests to analytics, is in My Stack and Workflow.

AI for content

  • Scripts: I use AI to write my video scripts, with a skill I update frequently that knows the way I talk. I keep my scripts in a Git repository and update them there.
  • YouTube: AI generates my video descriptions and SEO-friendly titles. That lives in my skills too.

AI for studying

I have a Claude project for each module. They all share the same set of instructions, explaining exactly how I like to learn, how it should summarise things, and how to make quizzes for me.

AI for planning

A lot of my planning happens with AI too. I get it to put things in my calendar for me.

  • Apple Calendar is the one I use most. It pulls in my Google Calendar as well, but anything I add to it directly is personal, like reminders.
  • Google Calendar is for school, work, and YouTube.

Video editing

I have a video editor for PKodes. Videos that need proper editing, like day in the life or how I got an internship, go to my editor.

When I edit myself, I use DaVinci Resolve. That's for conversational videos, like mock interviews or having someone else on the channel.

More on the channel in Running PKodes.
